How to turn on subtitles

The world of accessible video content with subtitles!

Subtitles can enhance your viewing experience, making videos more understandable, especially for those that don't understand the video's language or with hearing impairments. Here's a simple guide to enable subtitles on YouTube and pick the right language:

Enabling Subtitles:

  1. Locate the Subtitles Button: Look for the "CC" button, usually located in the bottom-right corner of the video player.

  2. Click the "CC" Button: This will turn on/off the subtitles.

  3. Click the settings button: The settings button appears as a gear. Click it and a menu will open. Now click subtitles/CC. Various subtitle options will show, pick the preferred language.

Enabling Subtitles in VLC media player

If you download the video file and respective subtitles instead, VLC media player is a versatile media player that offers a wide range of features, including subtitle support, of which we recommend using to play the video. Here's how to enable and customize subtitles in VLC:

Enabling Subtitles:

  1. Open VLC Media Player: Launch the VLC application on your device.

  2. Open a Video File: Open the video file.

  3. Access the Subtitle Menu:

    • Windows/Linux: Go to the "Subtitle" menu and select "Add Subtitle File."

    • macOS: Go to the "Video" menu and select "Subtitle Track."

  4. Choose a Subtitle File: Select the subtitle file (.srt, .sub, etc.) that corresponds to your video.
